Gone Fishing

Isaac has been asking Jim if they can go fishing. Well, today Jim took him to the Provo River by Vivian Park. The river was fast and no fish was caught, but Isaac had a great time. I loved it that when ever an older looking man walked by with his fishing gear, Isaac would say, "Look Mom, a fishing Papa." he knows that my Dad loves to fly fish and I thought it was cute that he was putting old men and fishing together. The only thing that Isaac had a problem with was sharing the reel with Jim. He wanted his own. Little did Isaac know that Jim's reel is about 3 times his size and he couldn't maneuver it all by himself.

Busy in California

Well, we just got back from hopefully our last trip out to CA before I have this baby. I am done with all the traveling. This was a really nice, but very busy trip. On Saturday, April 18Th, the three of us flew into Oakland in the morning and played in my parents backyard all day which Isaac loved. Later that evening was my Mom's surprise 50Th birthday party at Otaez in Alameda. There was plenty of great Mexican food and a ton of family and friends celebrating with margaritas and dancing. Isaac danced the night away with all of us but he was particularly attached to his Grandpa Wuehler. They danced for almost 2 hours straight. It was a long day for all of us and we finally called it a night after midnight.
The next day was my baby shower. It was a lot smaller and more low key than my first one with Isaac. it was a nice day with a handful of family and friends with a lot of pink and a yummy cupcake cake. Too bad it was in the 90's and we were all sweating. I received a ton of wonderful gifts and clothes for Elizabeth but Isaac made out with quite a few presents himself. He was very excited about them.

Tuesday, my Mom took the day off work which was nice and she came with Jim, Isaac and I to Baker's Beach in San Francisco. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It was hot but there was a nice cool breeze off the water. Isaac enjoyed playing in the sand. There wasn't place on him that didn't have sand in it. One of the funny things of the day is that this particular beach in certain areas is a nude beach. Every now and then we would see people that thought the thong bikini or thong speedo was all the rave. It gave us a pretty good laugh. Why people want to wear a thong when there is sand all around beats me.

On Thursday, we spent from 8 am to 130 am getting everything ready for Jim's brother, Craig's, wedding. And on Friday we were all at the Oakland temple in the morning to watched him be married to Suzanne. It was also nice to reconnect with Jim's other brother, Brent, and his family since we don't see them that often due to them living in Boston. It was the first time that Jim and I got to meet our niece and Isaac's cousin, Liesel. Isaac was smitten with her. He keeps asking for Baby Liesel. The reception turned out really nice and I think everyone enjoyed it. It was another late night for us ending after midnight.

Saturday we were back at the Wuehler's home at 7am to have breakfast with the family before Brent, Danika and Liesel headed out It was fun to watch Isaac and Liesel play one last time together. After breakfast, the three of us were pretty beat so we went back to my parents house for a quick nap before we were on the road again. We drove through Davis, and then up to Roseville to visit with some family that we haven't seen in a few years. That was really nice. After the short visit we were off to round two, meaning the second reception for Craig and Suzanne, in Elk Grove. That reception was really nice too but by 9pm Jim and I said we had to go and by 930 we were changed and out the door starting the 2 hour drive home. We were so tired we had to switch drivers and almost tape our eyelids open. Too much happened in those few days for the wedding and no sleep was involved. I was feeling it to. I started cramping and having muscle spasms. Put a fork in me cuz I was DONE!

Sunday we said forget it to church and my parents watched Isaac while Jim and I napped and lounged around the house until early afternoon. We went back to the Wuehler's for Sunday dinner, stopped by some of my family's house to say goodbye and then plopped down on my parents couch by 8pm. It was nice to actually sit and relax and watch a TV show.

Monday was a laundry and cleaning day then that evening back on the plane to UT. I think it will still take a week to recover. Both Jim and I are sick and trying to get Isaac back into a routine after a month a different trips is not a fun task. We have had an enjoyable time with our 3 trips to Ca in a total of 7 weeks but I think we will stick around Utah for a while.

Stupid Hot!

I know that I like to complain about the snow in Utah, especially when it is in April. However, I would love to have the snow right now just so I can stick my bare feet in it. The last 4 days in CA have been stupid hot! Like in the mid to upper 90's hot! For those of you who know the Bay Area, that is very unusual especially for it to be that warm in San Francisco! We went from the snow to this with out a chance to get acclimated. Not to mention it is even more hot for me since I am pregnant and don't have a single pair of shorts to wear. And yes, I have gone to a ton of different stores around here looking for shorts but apparently pregnant people don't want them since no one is selling them. The weather is nice, but I would like a mid to low 70's for a few days. Ahhh, that sounds perfect.

SoCal

Jim and I flew out early Monday morning to LA for an interview for the business school at Pepperdine University. Luckily, the interview wasn't until Tuesday morning, so we had plenty of time to look around and play. We drove through LA to USC and walked around campus to get the feel of it since it is one of the Universities that Jim applied to for graduate school. My consensus: beautiful school, BAD neighborhood!!!! After that, we went to Hollywood and looked at the Roosevelt Hotel, the Walk of Fame, the Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre. I couldn't believe that people were walking around in pants and sweatshirts. I was in a skirt and a tee shirt and sweating! My tummy started to rumble so we took a small detour and went to Pink's Hot dogs. I couldn't wait to have a Pink's dog again and have Jim try his first one. If you go, my suggestion would be the Mulholland dog: long dog with bacon, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms and nacho cheese. It was the best hot dog that Jim and I have ever had! It is definitely a place to try. Later that evening after a brief nap in the hotel, we went to Downtown Disney to walk around and have dinner. I can't tell you how painful it was to be that close to Disneyland and NOT go in!!! In the morning we got up and going to Malibu where Pepperdine University is located. It is a pretty campus located right off the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. The interview was FANTASTIC! They said they would let Jim know by Friday if he was accepted. Keep your fingers crossed for us. Since we can't afford rent in the luxurious Malibu, we drove through Calabasas, Thousand Oaks and Agoura Hills to check out "cheaper" places to live. With time to kill before we had to go back to the airport, we went to the Santa Monica Pier which was a horrible choice since the wind was UNBEARABLE!!! There went my nice day of sitting at the beach. I had a dress on and on more than a handful of occasions, it looked like I was Marilyn Monroe with my dress flying up. Since it was less than enjoyable, we went to Beverly Hills and the Sunset strip to look around before heading to Inglewood as our last stop at Randy's Doughnuts to get a dozen. Randy's has been featured just like Pink's in numerous TV shows, documentaries and movies. Jim and I both agree that they are the best doughnuts that we have ever tasted!!! The secret? They use potato flour in place of regular flour. They are the chewiest, and most moist doughnuts that I ever had! It is really close to the LAX airport and would recommend that small detour to anyone in the area. All in all, Jim and I had a wonderful trip. I am glad that we were able to go.

Randomness and Easter

If the weather is nice, on the Sunday of General Conference in between sessions, my little neighborhood gets together for what our Bishop calls the "Semi-Annual Break the Sabbath." Basically we all get together at a certain neighbor's front yard and there is a big BBQ. We talk about conference and other things. It is a great way to get neighbor's together whether they are members of the Church or not. This is a picture of Shannon and I relaxing in the sun that we hardly see after lunch. Also, this is the last picture of me with long hair. It looks shorter because it is braided, but I cut 15 inches off it.
Isaac loves to play with my elastic headbands. He can't just wear one. He has to wear all of them at the same time. I love this picture because his hair is so long it stands up.

Easter was a fun day. Jim's Mom and sister were here visiting and we all went to church and then to the Slinker's for dinner. We had a great dinner and I made my famous green beans and potatoes. It is such a treat because I normally don't cook with 3 lbs of bacon AND leave all the fat in it! Isaac had a couple of Easter egg hunts and had a blast playing with the Slinker kids like always. We also lucked out on weather. It was the first sunny day in a week!

What is BK Trying To Sell?

I am a little confused over the new Burger King commercial. I am not sure if they are trying to sell Whoppers or Sponge Bob products. Nonetheless, I feel it is inappropriate to re-make the Sir-Mix-Alot song,"I like big butts" for this commercial that is for children. Come one. Close ups of girls shaking their butts with squares on them? Really? This a new low for advertising in America. I never liked Sponge Bob but this has turned me off to the Whoppers at good ol BK. The second video is the whole music video where they are also talking about thong underwear.

BIrthday Party

The other day Isaac went to his friend Kamden's birthday party at McDonald's. It was fun for the little neighborhood kids to play together and it was enjoyable for the Mom's to visit with each other and Kamden's mom, Lyndzi, since they are moving to North Carolina this week. By the way, thanks Robyn for letting me steal these pictures from your blog since I didn't have my camera that day.

Malibu

So I thought going back to Ca 3 weeks after I already returned was crazy but now I am going back 2 weeks after I returned. Well, not to the Bay Area. Jim and I are going to LA and Malibu, just the two of us. He has an interview at Pepperdine so after we get back from So Cal, 3 days later, We will be on a plane back to the Bay Area. I am really looking forward to this trip. It should be fun.
