Super Saturday

Today was the last day of the kid's sport classes and they both ended with a bang. With Elizabeth's class they brought out the ride on bikes, all the balls, the roller square scooters and TONS of bubbles. She is great at hula hooping around her neck and LOVED the square scooters. With Isaac, towards the end of the class, they had parents versus the kids so Jim went out there to play with him. Once Elizabeth saw this, she ditched the end of her class to join the big kids and play soccer with them. She held her own.

After the sports classes, we headed downtown to the "World's Largest Brat Festival." We were pleasantly surprised to find out that parking was FREE, the shuttles were FREE and to get into the festival was FREE. That would be just crazy talk back home in California. We ate brats, which were only $2, cheese curds, fries and roasted corn. Jim and I were excited for the brats while the kids were SUPER excited for the roasted corn! That was cheap too.
I was excited to see the Oscar Mayer wiener mobile and made Isaac stand by it so I could take his picture. Elizabeth was not impressed by it thus refusing to be in the picture. As a kid I remember seeing it on commercials travel around the country and wishing that maybe one day I would get to see that big hot dog truck. Alas, 30 years later, I finally got to see it.

I love these pictures. They were both being silly and then sweet as I took these pictures.

The kids just had to play the goldfish toss so I reluctantly gave up $2 so they could play. They were disappointed that they didn't win a fish. Bummer, I know.
On our way out we got some ice cream from a local creamery that was at the festival. I just loved their motto and took a picture of it. The ice cream was so yummy and very creamy. I thought it was pretty awesome and I think the kids did too. You be the judge.

The kids really wanted to ride  the rides at the festival. Jim and I differ when it comes to this. He can't justify spending a $1.50 per ticket especially when each ride is between 2-4 tickets. I agree that it is expensive, but I loved riding on all the carni rides when I was little therefore I look forward to the kids liking them too. Well, today we gave the kids a choice: they could either ride a couple of rides or we could take them to Toys 'R Us and let them pick out a toy with the money that we would have spent. They both chose to ditch the rides and get a toy. Elizabeth chose a Minnie Mouse backpack and Isaac chose a small Star Tours lego set.

On our way home we stopped at an estate sale. As I walked through the home, I felt like I just stepped back in time looking a spinning wheels, butter churns, cast iron cookware and housewares, ancient farming tools, leather seated rocking chairs and dolls that looked like they would come to life and kill you. I wish that I had a home of my own and some extra money so I could pick up a few of they "old stuff" and put them on display. I really hope if the items aren't all sold that they will be donated to a historical society.

We walked away with the first 12 books of the American Artists edition of Mark Twain's publishing. I was super excited because I collect really old editions of classic books. A couple of these books are over 100 years old! We also walked away with a small platter, ancient screwdrivers, and a solid wood shelf. We told the kids that after we sand it, they can paint it however they would like and use it as a book shelf.

We had a LONG but fun-filled family day and it is only the beginning of this Memorial Day weekend.

Daily Doings in the Wuehler Home

Strike a Pose

The kids were being silly before church and it turned into an impromptu fashion shoot.

Utah

William and I went to Utah for 5 days last week to visit some friends. As soon as we got onto the first airplane, I soon realized that flying with William will be much more difficult than when I flew with him to LA. He wanted to see what was going on and be a part of his environment and weighing in at the size of a 12-18 month old, nursing him on the plane was quite the adventure as well. I find nursing on planes to be somewhat awkward even-though I am super pro-breastfeeding since your boob practically touches the person's arm sitting next to you. William will NOT nurse under a blanket so I was trying to be as discreet as I could but he loved pushing his feet against the window and then pull my nipple and his head into the other person's lap. Oh well. I guess that is why one can fly coach or first class.

After a day of flying, we finally arrived in Utah and I realized it has been almost 2 years since I have been there. I was able to see a lot of new businesses popping up and the burned Provo Tabernacle. We stayed with our good friends, The Slinker Family, and it felt like we never left. I had a great time just hanging out with friends, going to the movies and the Disney store and a whole morning of garage-saleing with super garage- saler, Shannon.

One of the days that I was there, I devoted a whole day to my good friend Myriah. I was originally supposed to go out for her wedding but with Jim's travel plans, that didn't work. I ended up spending the whole day and most of the evening helping her with her centerpieces, visiting and attending her bridal shower. It was great to hang out with her and still feel apart of the wedding.

WE had such a great time and as usual, the trip wasn't long enough.

Garage Sales

We came to find out that the first weekend in May, Cross Plains has a garage sale. We live in a town of 3500 people and there were 81 garage sales. I know this because I had a map with them all on it! Elizabeth, William and I hopped in the car on Friday and parked it then walked around looking at some of the goodies. There is just something about going through people's trash to find my treasure that excites me.

On Saturday after the kids sports clinic, we decided to go check out the sales with all 3 kids in tow. We weren't the only ones with that idea. Our town was poppin! There were cars all over the place and Mom and Dad's pushing strollers with their treasures in it and kids all over trying to convince their parents that they really needed that crap toy. One thing that we weren't expecting was to make it a day event.

One of the garage sales was on a farm so there we bought a kids wheelbarrow and surprised the kids with horseback riding. It was $2 a ride and the kids LOVED it to say the least. I was amazed at Elizabeth as she stood up tall with her pink riding helmet on ready to mount the horse with not a worry in her mind! After the ride we bought some home baked goodies from the 4H club before we hit the rest of the town.

Everyone was very friendly and we met some old men that lived in the farm house on our street for 44 years and farmed the land that in now a row of home that we live on. We also found out from one of them that he was friends with Betty White's husband, Allen Ludden, who used to live on our street and whom the street was named after.

At the very end, we went to the American Legion Park in our town where the local Lion's club was selling brats and giving train rides. What a day for the kids! Horseback riding, brats, soda AND train rides! The kids loved the train and you can see by Elizabeth's face in the picture towards the bottom that she loved hearing the sound of a train whistle. All in all it was a great, unexpected family day and we came home with some great finds as a bonus!
