Hawaii? I think not!

As much as I enjoyed living in Hawaii and would love to go back, I don't think that will ever be a possibility soon. When I lived there, food was expensive since everything had to be shipped but the price of everything shot up when 9/11 happened. It is no surprise that Hawaii is expensive, but come on $8.75 for organic milk? Check out this video. I thought I had it hard when I lived there spending $6 for cereal and $3 for milk. Then I thought we had it hard here on the mainland with the sudden rise in food prices. I am so glad that I am not a poor college student trying to save pennies to spend at the Laie Foodland. I would starve!! Well, there is always Ramen.

I Just Read...

I just finished reading, Stolen Innocence: My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs by Elissa Wall and Lisa Pulitzer. I read it so fast. I couldn't put it down! Living here in Utah, polygamy and the FLDS are a big thing here meaning they are always a hot topic. When the trial was going on with Warren Jeffs and with the recent raid on the Yearning for Zion Ranch compound, I started to really wonder about the FLDS since everyone had their own opinion on the matter. I know that there is good in every religion and everyone who practices has a different view and experience. For that reason alone, I wanted to read this book. Elissa describes her life in the FLDS before and during Jeffs reign of "Prophet," her family struggles, her marriage to her first cousin when she was fourteen and her decision to eventually leave. It is a great, but tragic story that I m glad that she shared. I recommend that you read it!

Strawberry Days

A few days ago we went to our friends, The Blevins, place to go swimming. They have a little boy, Traven, that is only 3 days older than Isaac. Jim, Isaac, Chad and Traven had such a fun time swimming together that they didn't want the fun to end so we went to Strawberry Days. It is a little carnival with rides, junk food, a rodeo and of course: strawberries. Kammy and I pushed the strollers while Jim and Chad took Isaac and Traven on the "Super Slide," the merry-go-round and the oriental Express which was a mini roller coaster. Yes, our boys are only 19 months and went on a roller coaster. I think that they would have enjoyed it more if they could actually see where they were going. The last thing they did was they put Isaac and Traven on this little train, by themselves. It was So cute to watch the two of them sit next to each other and enjoy the ride with out the Mommies or Daddies. We really had a great time and Isaac fell asleep on the way home. Thanks Chad, Kammy and Traven for inviting us over and showing us a great time!

Father's Day

Happy Father's Day Jim! We didn't do anything special, but Jim did get to wear his F.D. crown which Isaac LOVED! Now I know that I need to make him one too. They just had fun playing together like they always do. Jim is Isaac's buddy. He loves his Daddy SO much! I love to watch the two of them play together.

Note: See Isaac's hand in the cup? A minute after this picture he poured the entire cup of smoothie all over himself and Jim. I think he did on purpose so he could play in the bathtub with his Daddy.

What the Gay Brain Looks Like

I was reading this article from Time, "What the Gay Brain Looks Like,"and I thought it was interesting. Read the article, don't worry, it's short, and let me know what you think.

... you know, the ones that throw poop?

If you have ever been to the San Francisco Zoo, then you have read the signs around the monkeys that tell you to watch out because they like to throw their poop at people. I always find it entertaining to read those signs and hopefully see someone else get nailed by poop. Well, I have yet to see it happen at the zoo, but I was so lucky (can you feel my sarcasm?) to experience poop throwing today when I was getting ready for church.

I was putting on my makeup today when Isaac was taking a bath. He was talking and playing with his toys like normal and then when I was finished with my makeup (it takes me all of 5 minutes to do) I went to soap up Isaac and I noticed that he took the biggest poop ever in the bathtub! I was SO grossed out! So as I was letting the water drain out and clearing out all of his toys so I could bleach them, Isaac started picking up his poop and putting it on the side of the tub. The the unthinkable happened. He started to pick them up and throw them! it was on the bath mats, towels, washing machine and my feet. He got in trouble for that! I guess he wanted to be a monkey this morning on my account. Hopefully, he will leave it to the monkeys and their zoo keepers at the San Francisco Zoo.

Naked and Angry

I often go to cnn.com a couple of times a day to check the headlines since we don't have television and I cam across an interesting video today: "Naked and Angry." Of course it caught my attention so I needed to watch it. Low and behold it was a gas protest with naked people riding bicycles. I thought that was a very creative idea. I would have been out there on the street, not naked on a bike, supporting them as they rode by.

I am glad that they are standing up against the gas prices. I know that we still have cheap gas compared to some places in the world, but come on! It is getting a little bit out of control. I don't know about you, but I am finding it harder and harder to budget in gas money since it is continually changing! Since I know that I have no say in Washington, and even if I did, I am sure it wouldn't matter, Jim and I have decided to stop driving unless deemed appropriate: shopping at Costco/Walmart for groceries, bad weather, destination more than 10 miles (We really don't leave our 5 mile radius since we can't afford to get there). So far, it has been OK. We either walk or ride our bikes to where ever we are going. Isaac enjoys it too since he is pulled behind us in a bike caddy. I really can't see a better solution because it helps the environment, keeps money in our bank account and promotes exercise. Now, when we go back to CA for a visit, that will definitely hurt the bank. So, what are you doing, if anything to help off set the price of gas? We are always looking for new ideas!

Our Big Boy

Isaac has definitely changed these past few weeks. He is trying to use words a lot more, tries to open up the front door so he can go outside, hangs on the passenger side and sliding door handles on our van and then swings his legs, plays with worms, opens up the refrigerator and the most recent change that seems to be occurring on a daily basis now is lifting up our very old, ugly couch cushions and carefully placing them off the coach so he can roll his cars down it. He likes it when Jim or I do a count down for him. Sometimes he gets so excited he screams, "WOW!" at the top of his lungs. That always sends Jim and I into a laughing fit.

It is hard to come to terms that I now have a "toddler" that goes to and LOVES nursery at church! It is also an exciting time for me because he is learning so much all the time and he always seems to amaze me at what he picks up. I would have to say that this is the best stage so far even-though every stage has its perks.

Isaac still loves to cuddle with us when he is waking up and he enjoys cuddling up with Jim to watch a movie. When I say, "watch" I mean 15 minutes more or less. I can't wait to take him swimming this summer since he enjoyed it so much last year. Our only problem is that it has been in the upper 50's and lower 60's! Can you believe it? Last year at this time it was in the 90's! Oh well. Maybe once the three of us get over our colds, the weather will finally be ready for swimming.
