BBQ and Fireworks

k

We had a great time last night for the Fourth. We had 15 people over last night including kids for a BBQ and fireworks. I was so worried about the weather since it was supposed to storm in the evening but it never did. It ended up being the perfect temperature outside for our activities. Everyone brought many wonderful salads, homemade ice creams, chips and of course plenty of hamburgers and hot dogs for the grill. The kids had a ton of fun playing with water balloons and throwing them at us adults. It was the first time for some, including Isaac, with playing with water balloons. I think I am going to need to go to Walmart and get some more. They were such a hit! Another big hit was the Monster Snaps. The kids had a great time throwing them on the ground and hearing them "snap." For the adults, I think everyone just enjoyed being able to have "adult" conversations and actually eat their meal while the kids were occupied with all the toys in the backyard. Man, I am sure going to miss having a yard when we move! As it got later, we moved to the front and started playing with sparklers and the bigger fireworks. Surprisingly, all of the kids did a FANTASTIC job with the sparklers. I was a little bit nervous. Isaac liked watching the bigger fireworks and would go and help Jim light them and then quickly run away. Towards the end of our run with the fireworks, we walked across the street so we could see the big fireworks show in the sky that was being set off by the Stadium of Fire. Isaac LOVED that! I can't wait to take him to the fireworks show at Disneyland. He was talking and describing what they looked like to him in the sky. My favorite response to some red ones was, "Baby eggs!"Finally, after everything was cleaned up and put away, it was 11:30pm. It was a long day! Jim put Isaac to bed and headed off to work then I retired to bed too thankful the fun filled day was finally done with. However, I did wake up in the morning to Isaac wanting to set off MORE fireworks and then to a crying child with disappointment when I told him there wasn't anymore.

How fun and yet educational! Now I know that Brother Balou (sp?) was the freshman football coach that is now the head wrestling coach and he's some guy's father who helped the BEAT San Leandro...
